Following successful trials with Alzheimer’s Australia WA and the Silver Chain Group, Midlands-based telecare company, Just Checking, has now officially opened an operation in Sydney, Australia.
The operation has been established by Ellen Bragger, an occupational therapist who was a member of the Just Checking team in the UK during the company’s very early days. When she re-located to Australia she recognised the opportunity for the system and has since investigated the market potential and established a network of contacts.
“The response to Just Checking has been extremely positive,” explained Celia Price, Director and Co-Founder of Just Checking. “As was the case in the UK, occupational therapists and other social professionals quickly saw the potential of the system for effectively assessing the capabilities of individuals and informing care plans. The trials went very well and so we’re now very excited about the potential of this definite move into the Australian market.”
Just Checking has grown rapidly, doubling in size over the past two years. The Just Checking system is used for the assessment and care of people with dementia by more than 80% of UK local authorities, as well as by NHS trusts and major care providers. Earlier this year the company launched a version of the system designed specifically for families who are supporting a loved one living at home alone with dementia.
“We plan to launch the Families version of Just Checking into the Australian market later this year,” continued Celia Price. “As has proved the case in the UK, a strong platform for the product amongst the professional and local government communities will prove a very valuable springboard for introducing the Families version.”
